Growing up in a Railroad town , I knew that I would follow in my Fathers foot step and work for Southern Railway, just as others in my family had. Graduated high school in 1954 I went to work as a Machinist apprentice and diesel mechanic. I finished my time and became a machinist and diesel mechanic 1n 1958. For the next year I was a maintenance mechanic repairing track replacement equipment, between Alexandria, Va. And Atlanta, Ga. In 1960 I filled a position in Chattanooga, Tn. Later transferred to Atlanta. Ga. In 1965 I was promoted to Locomotive foreman. In 1969 I was promoted to general foreman, moved to Macon, Ga. Duties now included freight car repair and inspection of trains. In 1971 Transferred to Charlotte, NC. Now with more responsibility. In 1987 was promoted to Senior General Foreman ( the mechanical Department head) at Charlotte, N.C. I retired in 1993 after 39 years of a very enjoyable and successful career. During my time at Charlotte I had a wonderful Christian life my job allowed me to have a mission field at work but, also traveling to 18 countries serving the Lord. I was an Elder and co-minister at the Lambs Chapel in Charlotte. Later spent 8 years as an Elder and co-minister at Crossfire Church in Winston Salem, N.C. I have built lasting friendships with so many wonderful people, that has lasted over 45 years. Jim Hill is one of those persons I have traveled and ministered with him, I count it a special blessing to be one of the board members just to see what wonderful things that our Heavenly has available to us.
